Recreation in Southern Georgian Bay

There is so much to experience in the Wasaga Beach and Southern Georgian Bay area.

“There are so many delicious ways to enjoy the taste of Simcoe County! Pick up a homemade pie at one of the region's many farmers' markets or visit a working farm with the kids and go for a wagon ride. Wrap up the day by indulging in a satisfying meal at one of the wonderful dining spots scattered across the county. The menu of options varies from scrumptious comfort food to fine dining.”

“Hit the links with colleagues or friends, or tee it up alone to enjoy a serene, peaceful escape. Play the rolling bent grass of the traditional fairways, or choose the postcard-perfect layout of North American style courses. Check out the many stay-and-play packages available. The most challenging part of golfing in the region is deciding which of the more than 50 courses to play first.”

Winter Sports - Skiing, Cross country Skiing, Snowmobile clubs and trails, Snowshoeing and Tubing “Pack up your skis or snowboard and head for the hills. The region is home to more exhilarating downhill runs than anywhere in Ontario. Simcoe County is truly a winter wonderland where you can enjoy cross country skiing at one of the many picturesque resorts, or for a faster pace try snow tubing or snowmobiling along the nearly endless groomed trails. For something completely different, give snow shoeing, dog sledding, winter camping or ice fishing a try.”

Beaches, Lakes and Rivers
“Cast your line in Georgian Bay or in one of many bays, rivers and streams of Simcoe County for some of the best year-round fishing. Spend the day sailing or enjoy the thrill of water skiing or tubing. Paddle a canoe or kayak along the Nottawasaga River Canoe Route or spend the day building sandcastles at Wasaga Beach, the longest freshwater beach in the world!

Hiking, Mountain Biking
"Reconnect with nature at the Wye Marsh, Tiny Marsh, Matchedash Bay or the Minesing Swamp. Take to the trails and spot wondrous wildlife and waterfowl including Mallards, Teal, Bufflehead, Great and Lesser Scaup, Gadwalls, American Black Ducks and Ringnecked Ducks. Canada geese and even Trumpeter Swans also make their homes here. Head over to the Tiffin Centre, where the 17-kilometre trail loops through not only wetlands but also forests, open meadows, ancient lake beds and glacial shorelines.”

Cultural HotSpots
“Experience Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, a 17th century French Jesuit mission to the Huron people or Discovery Harbour, a picturesque historic site situated on beautiful Penetanguishene Bay. Visit Simcoe County Museum and walk through a longhouse, stroll Barrie's main street as depicted at the turn of the 20th century and see a schoolhouse that first opened its doors back in 1900. Ride South Simcoe Railway, a 1920's open-window railway coach or take in the Alliston Potato Festival, the Collingwood Elvis Festival or one of the many other events in the area.”

Provincial Parks
“Bring the family along for a vacation of fun! Enjoy the outdoors at a variety of outdoor gardens, parks and playgrounds. Entertain the kids by enrolling them in one of many summer day camps. Race around the track together at the local go-karts. Spend a day at the Elmvale Zoo viewing a variety of wild and exotic animals. Don't spend the day cooped up inside on a rainy day. Visit a local arcade or spend an afternoon perfecting your bowling score. Simcoe County has a variety of activities to entertain your family!”
